  • Perfect Northwoods Experience

    5/5

If you truly want a Northwoods experience in a comfortable cabin with quiet and solitude, this place delivers. The upstairs was recently remodeled since the first review. The beds are comfortable and the views out both bedroom windows are absolutely beautiful. The decor is very nice,... no family photos, no trophy mounts, and no hokey crafts to make you want to look the other way. There is a full size water heater so a person may take a reasonable shower unlike some cabin rentals. The TV and Wi-fi worked okay. The pots and pans were T-Fal nonstick with covers and not the cheap kind. We had what we needed in the kitchen, but everyone's expectations about what should be stocked in a kitchen is different. Just ask before you commit or bring whatever else you might want to have on hand if it's not on site. There is so much to do in the area. We mainly went hiking on the nature trails with our dog. Not all trails are open to dogs so check first before you venture out. We enjoyed Trampers Trail, Shannon Lake Trail off Found Lake Road (not off Hwy G), Spectacle-Kentuck Trail, Franklin Nature Trail, Sam Campbell Trail, Blackjack Springs Trail, and the Luna-White Deer Trails. Bond Falls just east of Paulding Michigan is worth the drive if you like viewing waterfalls. Google maps was not always accurate. Get a backup map. Vilas County has great maps that list just what is allowed on the trails such as hiking with dogs or no dogs allowed, skiing, hunting, etc... There are a lot of restaurants in the area. We only ate at Leif's for breakfast and Agave Azul. Both were excellent. The Nutty Squirrel Restaurant is relatively close to the cabin and always had a lot of customers when we drove by it. Eagle River has two good size grocery stores comparable to those in a midsize city. We had the good fortune of no bugs inside or out during a colder windy week in May. I'd recommend using ThermaCELL mosquito products when the mosquitos are bad so you can enjoy sitting on the deck at the cabin or on the porch. They really work. The heated floors in the lower level of the cabin are a treat during colder days. We did not have a campfire because it was too windy and dry. There is wood on site, but bring an axe to chop it up if it is safe to have a campfire or allowed per the DNR's weather related allowances. Hummingbirds drained the feeder on the deck. We cleaned & replenished the feeder. 1 cup sugar, 4 cups water boiled for 3 minutes and then cooled in the refrigerator. Enjoy!

  • Cozy rustic cabin

    4/5

The location is a perfect distance tucked back in the woods, but also just 15 min away from town. The cabin was cozy and just right for 2 adults. The ceiling in the loft is a bit low and the staircase is pretty narrow, so smaller people would be more comfortable. The wood burning stove to heat the house was a bit of a challenge to get going, but once we did, it made the cabin nice and toasty! We found that when the wood burning stove got going, we literally had hundreds of flies in the loft (trying to get into the warmth). Other than those small issues, the cabin treated us well and was a perfect get away from the hustle & bustle of every day life!
