From the owner: "Hi LaDonna, thank you for your review. Happy to hear you had a nice stay at the cottage and enjoyed those amazing views. Come back and visit any time."
We stayed at this Great little cottage in July. It was perfect for our family of five. It was stocked with plenty of linens, towels, soap, pillows, extra blankets, coffee creamer, kcups, games and the list goes on. I did contact Christina(contact person, not owner) prior to our trip to see if we could check in early, if there were any concerns with the river water, and to recommend anything else to do there and never received a response at all. Check in was easy, key code door.
The main living room TV kept freezing which they know about and have a sign to reset it... this probably froze about 30 times the one evening so we gave up and used the one in the back bedroom. We didn't plan on using the TV as much as we did but the heat and lack of cooling off in the water we needed something else to decompress. Maybe this isn't a big deal for others. Tv should just be replaced though. There were beach chairs and an umbrella for the private little beach. The kids loved the beach area and sitting on shore... until we realized it was full of JELLYFISH. My middle son got stung, and was fine about 30 mins later(vinegar stocked inside!)I don't know if this is predictable based on the time of year but would have been nice to know to plan accordingly.
No complaints at all about this house itself. However, it was 98 degrees everyday and we couldn't go in the water. That was the whole point of booking a place on the water.
The closest public pool is about 35 miles away, mini golf is non-existent unless you make a 40-50 mile drive. All restaurants are within 12-20 minutes. We tried a few things in town and there really isn't anything we visited with air conditioning. The flies were really bad everywhere. Bring lots of bug spray. The arcade in town entertained them about an hour but a lot of machines there didn't work, just took money.
We tried the Wilkersons seafood buffet as we looked forward to it all week. Very disappointing as they only had about 6 hot seafood items (all deep fried clams, fish, shrimp, mussels, hush puppies) on the buffet and the rest was a salad bar. I will say the Mexican places are amazing and their food was wonderful.
Overall, this place was nice for a one time trip. We love places that are low key like deep creek, MD, and outer banks, NC. Colonial is a cute river town but there's no tourist life there, Ice cream places were closed and had odd hours, and the fact that nothing is air conditioned in 2023 is just strange.
First class Property excellent furnishings, well supplied, lovely view everything top of the line
