Pros and Cons
3/5 This house has pros and cons. On the positive side, if you want a large house with a great view as well as places to escape the others in your party, then this is the house for you. Just be prepared to climb stairs, a lot of stairs, some more treacherous than others. The description does indicate the house is multilevel with some stairs; we just weren’t prepared for the number of them. It is not a house I would recommend renting if you have small children or elderly folks. The kitchen is well equipped and the decks are comfortable.
On the negative side, there are two serious concerns that I have messaged the host about. I have not heard back from them. The first is the steep and narrow driveway that has a short stone wall on one side - if you arrive in the dark as we did, the wall is extremely difficult to see. We scraped the side of the rental vehicle as a result. Simple reflectors would make a big difference.
A more concerning issue is a tiled stairway immediately to the right upon opening the front door. The stairway leads to a locked door. It was dark in the small landing and we could not get the light to stay on. A 79 year old woman in our party took a head first tumble down those stairs because she didn’t see them. Fortunately she was not severely injured but we were lucky. It’s not a fun way to begin a trip. A simple gate there would have helped.
The house could stand a thorough cleaning and some TLC - some paint in the bathrooms and anti-slip mats for the bathtubs

Peaceful retreat in Canyon Lake
4/5 Spacious home with gorgeous views! Plenty of beds and baths for a small group retreat. Well-stocked kitchen. Comfortable living areas. We loved gathering for meals on the large deck overlooking the lake. A dip in the lake was just a short walk away. We asked for a later checkout and it was graciously granted. A few minor hiccups and an overall very positive experience.
