This house in Philly had room for everyone. My children are grown with families of their own now - and live all over the country. We try to come together for a family vacation as often as we can - but it is not always easy to find a place that can fit everyone comfortably. But this house was great! Bedrooms are spacious and plenty.
The area is in the process of revival, so there is a diverse mix of people. There were restaurants and sites within walking distance.
Philadelphia is one of the dirtiest cities that I've seen, and there is trash everywhere (unfortunately). Hopefully, the gentrification process can pump in the cash needed to clean things up without destroying communities or the spirit of the city.
I will add that this house is an "old-style" shared space - which means that it feels like a family lived here (and might return any moment). The house is beautifully decorated, the art feels personal, and the furnishings are comfortable. There are scuff marks on the baseboards, books on the shelves, and other signs of a lived-in home. This is unlike many of the vacation rentals that are now mostly owned by investors. We enjoyed the space and wish the best for the family who owns the home.
This townhome is beautifully decorated, but in a very bad area within the city of Philadelphia. When we arrived we found garbage popping in and out of bags on the side of the road as well as out of the bags littering the area. The front stairs were littered with yard debris and white paint splattered in front. I talked with the neighbors, nice people, but they advised not going out after 8 PM for safety. This was not an option. It looked like someone may have stayed there recently and it wasn't cleaned in between. The refrigerator was filled with food, some of which had a very bad smell. There were dead bugs in the refrigerator door. Actually there were bugs everywhere (most were dead, but my daughter caught some crawling around. The floors did not display dust bunnies, but lots of dirt. It had not been recently vacuumed. There were not sufficient towels and some were yellowed. Closet doors were broken, patio/deck vandalized although I was told this was not the patio advertised and that there was another deck on the top floor in better shape. It wasn't grossly dirty, but it's someone else's space and it's weird sleeping in a bed that has stains or hair on it. There were also robes in each closet (not advertised) that I wasn't sure about. It creeped me out. There was hairspray film in the bathroom and hair in the shower drain. This would never happen at a 2 star or above hotel. I left and booked 2 rooms at the Marriott as a replacement. I did not feel comfortable staying here with my family.I have stayed at a Vrbo rental before and was very comfortable. This is definitely below par.

Hi Elizabeth, we want all of our guests to rest easy when they stay with us, and we're sorry that you experienced some issues during your trip. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and we wanted to share the following:
- The townhome is located in a safe, urban area of Philidelphia. We do include a map on the listing so that guests can see the approximate location of the home and neighborhood prior to booking to ensure they find the perfect vacation home for their needs.
- Occasionally, there is debris on the road, but not on the property. While this is out of the owner's control, we're sorry it made your stay less enjoyable.
- The home is professionally and thoroughly cleaned before each guest's stay, but the owner will pass along your feedback to the cleaners so they can continue to improve for future guests.
- This is the first time the owner has received feedback about bugs in the home. The owner and cleaners have only seen a fly in the house if the door is left open. The owner will double-check to ensure there are no pests, and they will treat the home if necessary.
- We hope the generous measures taken to make things right made up for some of the inconvenience.
Thanks for letting us know about your stay!
