  Hot garbage. DO NOT RENT! We get there and walk through the house. I find a used razor in the bathroom, a pop can on the deck alongside a chair that was rusted so badly I was afraid to sit on it. One whole room was unusable due to excessive mold (yes i know it's the south some mold is going to happen). You walk out onto the 20 year old deck to find way too many nail heads sticking very far out. I was worried my kids' feet would catch the nails when trying to get to the beach. Many of the sliding doors don't even have latches on them. I messaged the owner about these issues. They said "I'll be over tomorrow to hit those nails in" That was untrue, they never showed or messaged back after that conversation. For the price paid it was not worth it which is so unfortunate. There definitely needs to be some kind of inspection done on this house. DO NOT RENT!

Cleanliness is extremely important to us, and had we been made aware of any concerns during your stay, we would have arranged for our housekeeping team to return immediately to make things right. We will still be reviewing this with our housekeeping company to ensure it’s addressed.
  Regarding the mention of mold, we have routine inspections in place, and no issues have been found or reported throughout the summer, including during our visit in early July. If you happened to capture any photos of what you noticed, we’d greatly appreciate seeing them so we can investigate further.
  It sounds like most of your communication went through the property manager, and we regret that any repairs discussed with him weren’t completed as expected. Nail pops can happen frequently with wood decks near the ocean, and we do our best to stay on top of them. Many were repaired earlier this summer, and we will follow up to ensure the issue is fully resolved.
  As for the deck and furniture, the deck itself is not 20 years old, but, being so close to the ocean, it does experience accelerated wear. We are in the process of ordering new deck furniture, which is why none appears in the photos, and we’ll confirm with our team if the rusty chair you saw may have come from the neighboring side of the duplex, as that’s not part of our property.

• Great House Right on Beach

  This was one of three houses my family recently rented for a family reunion. It was originally under Emerald Isle Realty and we had pre-reserved it, but it was sold before the summer came and put under a different realtor. I can't thank the owner enough for respecting and honoring the prior reservations that had made. He made a precarious situation into a secure one.

  The house was lovely and comfortable. Great beds throughout. I know he is working to upgrade it and it showed. Beautiful new hot tub had been installed which we enjoyed.

  Family had rented other half of duplex. They come back yearly and will stay there. When we decide to come back we will defiantly try to rent Castaway West.

  Property needs to be taken care of. Carport light did not work. Door locks did not work. Broken chairs were left on the deck. House was full of flies and bathrooms were not cleaned well. The host or evolve were not helpful, we called during our stay, to get things handled appropriately. Please think twice before booking this property.

  - We inspected the property shortly after your stay and did not find any flies. We maintain regular pest-control services to prevent infestations.
  - Our maintenance personnel confirmed the door locks were functioning properly. No other guests have reported issues this season.
  - The carport light operates with a main switch. Our property manager communicated this to you during your stay.
  - We were not notified of any dirty bathrooms. Cleanliness is of utmost priority to us, and we would have promptly addressed this if informed.
  - The broken chair on the deck was left by a previous guest. We do not advertise deck furniture and would have removed it if notified.
