While on the surface the house was cute and clean, we started to notice issues right away. I'll start with the minor things. Our first night there we noticed one of the bedroom doors was off the hinges and couldn't close. I text the host the next morning, and they came out thay day to fix it. So good response time there. Then we noticed a closet door in another room off the roller track. The laundry room closet door off the track. A bathroom closet door off the track. Only one of the front porch lights worked, and it was about to die. Previous sidewalk chalk drawings on the back patio were not cleaned up. I'm glad my youngest child didn't notice the crude drawing of male anatomy out there. Dishes and utensils were dirty. We went to do dishes our second night there, and the dishwasher had dishes in it. Not sure if they were clean or dirty, we just assumed dirty and washed those too. There was no bottom drawer to the freezer, so not a lot of room to store ice and frozen things. Thankfully we thought to buy ice on our way to the house because there was no ice maker. Just a warped and broken ice cube tray. But the biggest issue by far was the cockroach infestation. Dead ones all over. The window tracks, the tracks to the back door, under tables, the dresser drawers. We killed a couple live ones our first night there. Now I understand that they are part of island life. My best friend lives on island, so I know they can happen. But this wasn't a random one here or there. We were killing live ones every day. Every. Single. Day. We were there for a week and I actually lost count on how many we killed. I would say the average was two or three a day. When I mentioned this to the host, I was told the house was treated monthly. They are definitely treating it, because every day we would also find freshly dead ones. We stored all of our food in ziplock bags and gave up on cooking after having a bug run across the stove. Now you're probably asking, why did we stay. Well, we already paid for the week. There was nothing else available in our budget that fit our needs. I couldn't spend a bunch of money for another place while fighting for a refund from this place. If they could get the bugs and cleaning under control, this would have been a perfect place to rent. But between dead bugs, live bugs, and the bug poo on the walls/ceiling, I can not honestly recommend this place.

  • Huge front yard and convenient location

    3/5

The driving directions are easy but we had initial difficulty finding the right home because there wasn't an address visible from the road. We had an outrigger canoe on top of our car and it easily fit in the front yard - plenty of space to park and maneuver with a canoe.

The place wasn't cleaned well before our arrival (leftovers in the freezer, drips in the fridge and on the floor, plastic bits on the floor, dirty window sills,...) but the property manager came in for a touch up after we reported the condition to her. We killed or picked up 12 cockroaches during our stay, but this can be expected in Hawaii...

  • Home away from home!!

    4/5

We couldn’t have found a better place! There were some small things we weren’t super happy with, but for the size, location, and quality, it really was the perfect stay for our family.

    Pros:

-incredibly spacious! There was more than enough room for the 6 of us (3 children) to hang out and play, relax, cook, eat, and roam around outside in the huge, fenced in yard.

-the empty third bedroom made for a perfect “playroom” for the kids. Absolutely loved the piano and all the paper/writing utensils.

-the closet full of kids toys and entertainment was a very nice surprise and kept the kids busy and happy while home.

-bathrooms and bedrooms were big and stocked with everything we needed - (except extra pillowcases) loads of extra blankets and pillows, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc.

-loved that the kitchen had Tupperware, ice packs and coolers for the run (except the big cooler in closet was a bit smelly so we didn’t use it.)

-the front and back patios were great to hang outside and watch the rain/listen to qoquis.

-super great location. Only about 15 minutes from Hilo town, and not too far from Pāhoa, Volcano, Saddle rd. Etc.

    Cons/suggestions:

-the living room couch was so hard and uncomfortable we barely used it.

-weren’t able to connect to WiFi (“Wifi connection unstable”) on both the TV and our own devices.

-the kitchen only provided one cutting board which was a giant super heavy slab of marble, and we did a lot of cooking.

-the back patio could definitely use some more/brighter lights - would have loved to enjoy dinners outside but it was way too dark.

-the small trampoline on the back patio would have been so fun but a huge chunk of springs were missing and it wasn’t safe.

-we had planned to go frog hunting at nights but the grass was a bit long we didn’t end up spending too much time in the yard, which was minor.

Overall the pros greatly outweighed the cons and we were super happy with our stay, I’d highly recommend it and we would stay here again!! (Also one of the reviews complained about cockroaches.) We did find a few dead ones here and there, but after seeing the swarm of cockroaches outside at night, I’m sure they’re doing what they can to control that problem! It didn’t bother us. House was super clean and bright, thank you for such a memorable stay.

  • Very Quiet and Beautiful Home

    5/5

The home was very quiet, clean, comfy and roomy, and lots of beds, towels, and blankets. Everything was great. The only thing was the internet was out and minimal cell reception. Would definitely rent here again. Check-in process was so easy too.
