The property overall was good, knowing that it is an older home split into two apartments. However, the bathroom photos on the listing are wrong! They show a completely renovated bathroom with shower. The actual bathroom has only a clawfoot tub with a shower curtain that does not close all the way. It was fine for my husband and I, but my elderly parents, who were supposed to come with us but ended up not coming at the last minute, would not have been able to use the tub/shower at all due to having to climb in and out. I never would have booked the apartment if the photos had been correct. I booked the rental five months ahead and the photos were wrong then so they have had plenty of time to correct but have NOT as of Oct. 15, 2024. I'm not seeing other reviews saying the same thing.
The only other thing I would point out is that sound definitely travels when the downstairs unit is in use. I could hear someone snoring during the night...through the floor! So be aware if you're a light sleeper or bring a noise machine.
Homeowner's Response:
"Hi Brandy, thank you for your review and for sharing your detailed feedback. We're happy to hear that you found the overall property to be good, but we're truly sorry for the confusion caused by the incorrect bathroom photos. We've been working with Evolve to get this issue corrected, and we'll make sure the listing reflects the accurate photos moving forward.
Thanks again for letting us know about your stay."
This apartment is nothing like is pictured or described on the website. The apartment is in the upstairs of an old home, extremely small space. There was a very loud window air conditioner in the living room (which is not in the pictures of the apartment), with no thermostat or controls for air conditioning in the bedrooms, nor any information to contact the manager, as he apparently controls the air conditioning remotely. There were large dead bugs (roaches) in the living room light. The whole apartment is very worn, old looking--chipped paint, dirty area rug, loveseat (no couch), uncomfortable furniture, chewed up windowsills, dust on the lights, shower is a hand held apparatus for a shower in the claw footed tub with a shower curtain that did not even enclose the shower. I did contact the house manager and he did inform me of the need to contact him for the adjustment of the temperature in the apartment. This does not make any sense to me as we would have never stayed in a place that we were unable to adjust thermostat independently, especially since it was 98 degrees outside. I did contacted Evolve, which is whom we booked through, including pictures of the bugs, the rundown space and etc. We received no assistance except they were looking into everything with promises they would contact us back, which did not happen. I contacted them daily for some type of update and received different information every time including that I should contact the homeowner directly myself. I requested for them to cancel and reimburse for our stay so we could leave and find another location to stay in. I will also never use Evolve again for any type of booking. They felt that a reimbursement of $60 was adequate for all of this horrible stay. So very disappointed as this was to be a special vacation for us including my brother. Thank goodness, the next stage of our vacation in Rapid City was Excellent with a great home that we booked through Booking.com
Hi BETTY J, the homeowners were surprised to read your review, as they are accustomed to providing 5-star experiences, and would like to clarify the following:
-We use local, professional photographers to make sure that the listing photos correctly reflect the property, so the features you see on the listing are accurately advertised. While many previous guests have enjoyed their time here, we understand that your experience was different. The apartment is indeed located in an upstairs unit of a Historic home which is stated in the listing.
-Regarding the air conditioning, we understand how frustrating it must have been not to have direct control over the thermostat, especially during hot weather. We have updated the listing to include this information.
-We’re also sorry to hear about the cleanliness issues you mentioned, particularly the dead bugs in the light fixture and dust. The homeowner is committed to addressing these concerns with their cleaning team to ensure that future guests have a more comfortable experience.
We always work with both guests and homeowners when issues arise and apologize that we were unable to come to the resolution you were hoping for based on the documentation provided. We truly go above and beyond for our guests, and we are confident that future guests will have excellent stays!
Enjoyed our stay. A note of caution to those who do not like dogs…the downstairs apartment occupants had a dog that barked every time we went up or down the stairs. Assuming that the dog was home alone and being protective? It was in a very convenient location.

Cute apartment in a stellar location, just blocks to campus and old town. Kitchen was fully stocked and there were plenty of towels and soap. I also appreciate that there were cleaning supplies and access to a vacuum to cleanup small messes. Really had everything we needed for a weekend trip. Sharing the backyard was a bit rough due to the other tenants in the downstairs unit who left loads of dog poop everywhere so the yard was completely unusable, but this wasn’t the owner’s fault. Also a couple maintenance things in the unit that need to be addressed, bedroom door hinge was broken so the door does not close, ceiling fan knocked a bit while rotating, but otherwise this is a great little place!
Our contact, Ben, was very responsive. The house was well stocked for cooking, comfy beds and a great location. Thank you!
