  • Nice stay in Fairplay

    5/5

You will need 4wd to get to the house, but it is worth it! Beautiful treed property and nice layout to the house.

  • Perfect Location for Lots of Activities

    5/5

We stayed here for almost 3 weeks, and had a wonderful experience. The house is in a great location, giving you access to lots of activities, but with a remote feel that provides privacy and a bit of solitude. There are certainly other homes close by, but when sitting on the beautiful porches you’ll forget that.

Speaking of porches, sunrise viewed from the upper deck is worth getting up early for. Afterwards, the sun can be pretty intense, so we moved down to the lower deck for morning coffee. The upper deck is perfect for evening happy hour!

The location provides easy access to great hiking trails, and some of the best fishing in Colorado. Do be aware that the elevation is above 11,000 ft, so take some time to acclimate to that. BTW – be sure to lock your car at night. I forgot to do that once, and believe it or not, a bear actually opened the car door and spent some time looking around inside!

  • Wonderful house

    5/5

The House was just wonderful. Spacious, very clean and the best stocked kitchen of all the rentals I’ve booked. They thought of everything if you chose to bake or cook dinner at home. Beds were comfortable, living room furniture too. Beautiful grounds, very peaceful and quiet.

The house manager, Mason, was wonderful and quick to respond to our questions.

Getting to and from the house was not so wonderful. The dirt road we took for about 5 miles was very bumpy, with washboards and rocks everywhere. If we return we would definitely rent an AWD SUV. That road was not meant for a sedan! Please take this alternate route which the owner recommends. Although longer (about 5mi) it is much better than where Google maps will send you. Both routes are awful but recommended route much better.

    Manager's Response:

From the Owner: "We are so glad you enjoyed your stay in Colorado and that you found the cabin an excellent choice! The roads to the cabin are typically well-maintained but can be a little bumpy the higher you go. It is however still easily passable in 2nd vehicles during the summer months. The route stated in the listing is much easier than the route that any directions app may take you."

  • Good place for a Dog

    5/5

We took a break from the regular day-to-day and went away with our dog. We enjoyed the location. A TV would be nice on the main level Living Room.

  • Very Nice cabin

    4/5

Travel to the house was pretty easy to get to. We got screwed with the truck we rented. Coming from Texas there are not alot of AWD trucks. We were given a Blazer..real wheel and man did we almost pay the price with our lives...sliding down the slope backwards and with the cliff below ..not pleasant..ended up going to Denver to swap out truck..long story short..like the other reviews mentioned have a AWD..u better or you will be screwed. The lodge was in a great spot. Very private. Love the nature aspect. Place is stocked with all you need. My wife said it could use some updating and maybe a good cleaning. She saw some webs in the corners. Beyond that we would def stay again. We are clean OCD family so if I am saying we enjoyed it ..take us at our word. The washer and dryer, need new front loaders. Going into 2024 those should be updated. Did appear the owners just swapped out the hot water heater. Water was also super hot. I understand why the owners might not want to update due to the fact the types of people they might get. Not everyone treats a rental like their own house. Some people treat their own house like a barn so I get it. Had to call Phil once to come out to the place due due a bonehead move by me.

Accidentally dropped the key in the gap of the deck..he was super responsive...nice guy. Future guest ..attach the key to your main keys. Beyond that thanks for the place for a week. We had a blast ..already talking about heading back next yr.

    Manager's Response:

Owner's response: "Johnny, We are very glad that you enjoyed your overall stay and are looking forward to a return visit. We look forward to hosting you again.

    - We do recommend 4-wheel drive vehicles for our winter guests. The road crews do a good job of keeping the roads plowed but they can still have snow on them. We are sorry to hear about the issues you had with your truck, we are glad that they worked out.
    - Our professional cleaners do a good job preparing the cabin for our guests and we get good feedback regarding their performance, but we will share your feedback with them.
    - The washer and dryer were updated a few years ago and we decided to put in top-load because front-load can be a little hard on people's backs. Top-loads are making quite the comeback.
    - The kitchen appliances were updated and are less than 2 years old.

We do all we can to give our guests the best possible experience, and we look forward to hosting many satisfied guests. We will continue to deliver the 5-star experiences for all future guests."
