It is as advertised. We were there in November so the lake was down. If we had been there in season when the lake was full the view would be awesome. The inside was very clean. I did send an email about an issue with the hot tub and did not receive any response. It was not a huge deal and I did not follow up. I would recommend this property.

The house is older, as stated in the description, but well-kept. We were looking for something out of the tourist areas and it was perfect for that. The drive to Gatlinburg wasn't bad, and it's pretty. The town area is really charming. The kids absolutely loved the arcade games. I think it would be very (better) different in the summer when the lake is up, but it was great for us. Just expect the lake to be down in the fall/winter.

This home does not represent the photos that we saw. The home is very worn and needs a complete update and refresh. The lake is down. And has been for a while. The dock is not accessible. The hill is too steep to try to walk down unless you’re a young person. So if you’re looking for a rental on the lake that you can enjoy sitting on the dock fishing or just meditating with a cup of coffee, this is not the home for you. The Wi-Fi is horrible, So if you need to do any work at all, make sure you have hotspot. This home could have so many positive potentials but it’s just worn and outdated. The beds were comfortable, But the property needed a deep deep cleaning. There were pesky gnats in the kitchen and dining area. The water pressure in the house is very low, but that’s easy enough to deal with. I won’t continue to say negative things about the property, I just hope the owner takes a few weeks of not renting it and goes in with a “customers eyes” and takes care of all of the projects that this house needs to be done.
The Evolve team was fantastic to work with. When we spoke about the issues that we were having with the home they went above and beyond to try to make it better for us and our stay. My family looks forward to renting homes again with them in the future. Just not this one.
Hi Diana, we’re sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. After reviewing your feedback, we followed up with the homeowner, and they would like to share the following response:
-It was a pleasure discussing your stay, and I appreciate you taking the time to speak with me. From our conversation, it seems clear that the lowered lake level was your primary disappointment. While the water level is beyond anyone’s control, it has been confirmed that Evolve sent an email before your stay to inform you of the early lowering of the lake. Additionally, there was an attempt to contact you by phone, but unfortunately, a voicemail could not be left due to a full inbox. Please rest assured that every effort was made to notify you about this situation in advance.
-Regarding the home, we understand that it may not have aligned with your personal preferences. The property is described as a rustic, fifty-year-old cabin, and the photos accurately represent its genuine character, which many guests find charming. Additionally, the house was thoroughly cleaned and photographed to reflect its true condition.
-Although the home was thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival, we will instruct our cleaning team to conduct even more meticulous inspections going forward. This will ensure that every detail is addressed and nothing is overlooked, enhancing the overall guest experience.
-The presence of gnats can be intermittent, varying from time to time. We have engaged a new pest control company to explore additional measures for managing this naturally occurring issue. While we have been actively addressing it, we are seeking further solutions to improve control.
-The internet service is currently being tested to ensure that everything is functioning properly. We are also working with the service provider to explore options for boosting the signal, as the property is located in a rural area. While there have not been widespread reports of issues, we are looking into this thoroughly to identify any potential problems.
We are truly sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations, and we want to assure you that your feedback has been taken very seriously.
We spent a week on Douglas Lake. The house had plenty for everyone to do - game room, putt putt, hot tub, kayaking, fishing. There are lots of steps to get down to the lake. You will get a workout that's for sure. Be sure to bring bug spray because of the mosquitos. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen has some pots and Pyrex dishes to use for making meals. Our Evolve person made sure we made it to the house and helped with any questions we had. She even did a mid-week check-in to see if we needed anything.
The road is very curvy to get to the house so just be prepared. The grocery store is within 15 minutes from the house.
Overall, we had an enjoyable time at the house.
